
#4 Design partnership yields cabbage-based lamps
In Canada, a microbiology graduate is set to launch a Kickstarter campaign to In London, a partnership between designer Vaidehi Thakkar and Nir Meiri Studio has created a line of lampshades made out of red cabbage leaves to highlight the renewable options available to the design industry.
Thakkar created the lampshades—appropriately named Veggie Lights—by converting the cabbage into a paper she calls Fiber Flats, which are then soaked in a natural preservative. Each lampshade is different because of variations in the leaves, which create a lamp that emits more natural light. The base is conventional, so the biodegradable lampshades can be replaced as they age.
