5. Target: 50% reduction in bioprocess scale-up time from 10 to 5 years

Progress is usually incremental, just look at the Olympics, where the records from, say, the 100 meter dash are lowered in perhaps the hundredths of a second each year or two. Not so at the Agile Biofoundry as Blake Simmons showed in this slide. A 50 percent reduction from 10 to 5 years of the average industrial biotechnology scale up. Perhaps the number one reason that VCs avoid industrials — the timelines are too long. These are awesome, eye-catching ambitions that might well revolutionize biobased process development and also the financing thereof.
