The US generates ~10 million tons municipal wastewater sludges/year Disposal to land or landfills is limited, expensive. The Opportunity is to convert sludges to fuels using Hydrothermal Liquefaction. Conversion of sludges to ‘biocrude’, for upgrading to aviation and other fuels, with HTL has a US potential of over 4 billion Liters oil/year. There are favorable economics and up to 70% GHG reductions.  The Process and Challenge?  HTL uses subcritical temperatures, pressures to convert wet wastewater sludges to biocrude oil at high efficiency  Braden Crowe of Microbio Engineering  presented these slides at ABLC Next 2022.
