Energy production from sewage sludge especially at small-scale using Anaerobic Digestion typically does not produce significant value with the current available AD technology due to low Carbon Conversion Efficiency (generally less than 50%). Here a team of researchers led by Birgitte Ahring of Washington State University proposed a novel concept, which will overcome this problem and produce significantly more energy in the form of Renewable Natural gas. Dr. Ahring presented these slides at DOE Project Peer Review on the progress to date.
