IEA Bioenergy Task 40: Deployment of biobased value chains (in the triennium 2016-2018 known as ‘Sustainable biomass markets and international bioenergy trade to support the biobased economy’), commonly abbreviated Task 40, was established under the International Energy Agency (IEA) Bioenergy Implementing Agreement in December 2003 with the aim of focusing on international bioenergy technology potential, barriers, and trade as well as its wider implications. Here, Christiane Hennig, Co-Task Leader, Task 40 and Senior Scientist, DBFZ German Biomass Research Centre, gives a comprehensive update on Task 40 and also on IEA Bioenergy itself.
