CO2 Electrolysis + Gas Fermentation: a CO2 to Chemicals Platform, that’s the goal of this Argonne National Lab, LanzaTech and Dioxide Materials, project. It aims for room Temperature CO2 electrolysis (Anion Exchange Membrane based technology), and gas fermentation yield improvement through process development, metabolic engineering and arginine supplementation. Researchers have found that gas fermentation can be paired with CO2 electrolysis to create a platform for carbon negative chemicals from CO2. Low cost, renewable electricity is a key enabler for the technology. Jason Bromley of LanzaTech gave this presentation on the project at DOE Project Peer Review.
