#10 Textiles maker uses coffee grounds, castor beans

In Taiwan, sustainable fabric maker Singtex is using organic materials to produce biobased textiles. The Biotec series includes materials made out of coffee grounds and bio-nylon fabrics produced using castor beans. Up to 25% of petroleum-based content can be replaced with biobased materials using Singtex’s process.

“Striving to be the pioneer in sustainable fabrics, Singtex is the first textile company to use EcoPaXX to make Singtex Biotec bio-based nylon fabrics,” the company says. “EcoPaXX is made of 70% tropical castor bean oil; reducing the use of petroleum. This eco-friendly, high performance nylon fabric is perfect for outdoor environment.”

Singtex will be displaying its Biotec line at the OutDoor show in Friedrichshafen, Germany, which is currently underway. It will also be presenting its products at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, which takes place in Denver, CO, in July.
