The Turin Joint Statement on Sustainable Biofuels has now been released, and is here.

WHAT THE TURIN JOINT STATEMENT (TJS) IS

The Turin Joint Statement seeks to focus attention on G7 Ministers (and be extension heads of state) regarding the need for sustainable biofuels to achieve climate goals such as Net Zero by 2050. The core of the joint statement is a set of requests for G7 Ministers/Ministries to consider.

WHAT THE TJS IS NOT

The Turin Joint Statement is not a full treatment of all fuels. It is focused on the role of sustainable biofuels. The roles of e-fuels, CCS, hydrogen and its derivatives are not addressed by this document. Those interested in international processes and actions to advance all molecular fuels are invited to contact the Clean Energy Ministerial Biofuture Campaign that is working to create a Future Fuels Accelerator within the context of the Clean Energy Ministerial.

HOW WILL THE TJS BE USED

The TJS will formally be shared with G7 Climate, Energy and Environment Ministers on 29 April for their consideration and potential inclusion in 2024 G7 statements and communiques. In addition, the TJS will be carried forward and presented to the G20 Energy Minister’s Meeting on 04 October in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil. The statement will be used to create a meaningful, conceptual bridge regarding sustainable biofuels between the G7 and G20 in 2024 and beyond.

The speakers, from their respective perspectives, addressed realistic contributions of the different products and technologies related to the use of Sustainable biofuels and related technologies in order to meet climate and net-zero goals in the COP28 framework, fostering the key role of innovation, environmental and social aspects, enhancing local value.
