Then: ”At 27 July 2007 I was already retired after being 6 years in the Board of Administration of CARRIS, the bus and tram transport company of Lisbon (Portugal). I had worked there since 1974 until 1991. At 1998 I introduced the first 18 buses working with biofuel (B10).

Now:  After the retirement I have worked mainly as a consultor on rationalization of energy consumption in transport companies and I published a book on that subject.”Today, I came back to the city where I was born (at 1944) – Portimão, at the south of Portugal, where we have beautiful beaches with hot water – and I still read and publish papers on energy in transportation.

Inspirations: “My main objective is the health of the future generations and their quality of life – I have 6 grand suns, 1 boy and 5 girls from my 3 suns, 2 girls and 1 boy – but many other subjects interest me. like the development of the most undeveloped countries. I know the previous portuguese domains in Africa – I´ve made some studies and teaching and I spent 2 years in Moçambique at 1972/1974, serving in the army. I think that for those countries the production of oil-plants can be of grate importance.”

Challenges: The main problem is the appropriation of the results of all the development by a minority, not allowing a general enhancement of the quality of life. So, not only the technological development is fundamental but it has to go along with social concerns.
