In Denmark, Topsoe announced it has been selected to provide its HydroFlex technology for HOLBORN’s Hamburg refinery, which aims to produce 220,000 tons of renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel annually by 2027. This facility will leverage waste and residue feedstocks to meet the growing demand for low-carbon fuels, solidifying Topsoe’s role in advancing global decarbonization efforts.
The agreement reflects Topsoe’s growing prominence in the renewable energy sector, as HydroFlex is widely recognized for its ability to efficiently convert various fats, oils, and greases into high-quality, drop-in fuels that meet global standards. This technology will help HOLBORN address the surging demand for SAF, a critical component in the aviation industry’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
Elena Scaltritti, Chief Commercial Officer at Topsoe said, “HOLBORN is spearheading the rollout of SAF in Northern Europe through its Hamburg plant, and we are proud to be a part of this process.” This development is a crucial step towards meeting the International Energy Agency’s Net Zero Scenario, aiming for over 10% of aviation fuel consumption to be SAF by 2030.
