In Norway, United European Car Carriers announced that Toyota Motor Europe, Ford of Europe, and another major European automaker have joined its Sail for Change program to use bioLNG-fueled vessels for transporting vehicles across Europe. This move, part of UECC’s efforts to decarbonize logistics, is expected to reduce the company’s Scope 1 emissions by 80,000 tonnes annually, nearly a third of its total ship emissions.
The bioLNG, supplied by Titan Clean Fuels and bunkered at the Port of Zeebrugge, enables UECC to carry out carbon-neutral cargo operations across its network. Participating manufacturers will benefit from lower Scope 3 emissions and reduced costs related to the EU Emissions Trading System, which is set to impact maritime transport next year.
The Sail for Change program provides customers with verified emissions data and allows them to reduce their carbon footprint in maritime transport.
UECC’s CEO Glenn Edvardsen concludes: “Sustainability has always been at the core of our business strategy and we will continue to lead the way in adoption of new alternative fuels in alignment with the green operating regime for the benefit of the environment, our clients and stakeholders.”
