In Switzerland, Proman announced over the past 12 months, it has delivered 12,500 metric tons of methanol fuel to vessels in Trinidad, solidifying the Port of Point Lisas as a burgeoning hub for methanol refueling in the Caribbean. With methanol produced at Proman’s local facilities, earlier this month Proman refueled the Stena Prosperous and in coming days will bunker methanol on the Stena Pro Patria. These operations have pushed the total methanol supplied in August alone to 2,100 metric tons.
The Stena Prosperous recently traveled to Trinidad from her naming ceremony in Singapore to with stops in Indonesia, Brazil, and Savannah, U.S. The vessel was fueled in Singapore with a blend of 20% green and 80% conventional methanol, achieving a 31% reduction in CO2e emissions for the voyage compared to using Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil.
With over 300 methanol-fueled vessels expected to be operational globally by 2027, the adoption of methanol is set to increase. Proman’s initiative in Trinidad not only supports local economic growth but also positions the island at the forefront of sustainable marine fuel technologies.
