In the UK, Union Maritime’s plans for 34 new build vessels to use BAR Technologies’ WindWings, a rigid sail technology, will save an average of 1.5 tonnes of fuel and reduce CO2 emissions per wing daily on typical routes.
Wind propulsion is a key component of Union Maritime’s broader environmental strategy, which includes the deployment of dual-fuel LNG engines on up to 8 Long Range 2 tankers.
The partnership with BAR Technologies also includes a strategic equity investment, highlighting Union Maritime’s commitment to sustainable and efficient shipping. This investment is in its final stages and signifies the long-term alignment between the two companies.
