In Chile, the University of Chile reported that the Los Andes Center of Excellence in Geothermal Energy (CEGA), belonging to the University of Chile, will carry out a pre-feasibility study to install a green hydrogen plant that allows taking advantage of geothermal energy. The project, awarded by the Regional Government of Aysén, will evaluate the technical and economic viability of an initiative of this kind, which allows the production of clean hydrogen from the energy generated by the heat of the earth. CEGA will be the unit in charge of carrying out prefeasibility studies for the installation of the green hydrogen plant powered by geothermal cogeneration in the Aysén Fjord. During this phase, the technical and economic viability of the project will be evaluated , in addition to defining the key variables for this project to be viable, the university said. This initial stage will last at least 18 months. If the results of this phase are satisfactory, the project can advance to the detailed engineering stage, it added.
