In Virginia, Venture Global announced the launch of LNG carrier ‘Venture Gator’, the first vessel in its advanced LNG fleet, from Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in Geoji-si, South Korea. The Venture Gator is the first of nine LNG carriers slated for completion over the next 24 months across three South Korean shipyards. This fleet will play a crucial role in transporting U.S.-sourced LNG to various global destinations, particularly to partners in Europe and Asia starting this fall.
Using LNG propulsion and equipped with the latest environmental and efficiency technologies, the Venture Gator features a new hull design, onboard reliquefication systems, air-lubrication systems to reduce water friction, an auxiliary shaft generator, and exhaust gas recirculation to minimize methane emissions. These innovations position Venture Global’s fleet among the cleanest in maritime operations.
Venture Global CEO Mike Sabel said, “President Biden has committed to increasing LNG supply into Europe and we are pleased to be in a position to continue to support these efforts with a fast-growing shipping fleet, wholly owned, operated and controlled by Venture Global.”
