Virent, Renmatix, Verdezyne take top slots in The 40 Hottest Small Companies in the Advanced Bioeconomy for 2015-16

At the ABLC NEXT 2015 conference in San Francisco, Virent took the #1 spot in the 2015-16 “40 Hottest Smaller Companies in the Advanced Bioeconomy” rankings, published today in The Digest, the world’s most widely-read advanced bioeconomy daily.

The Hot 40 recognizes companies with less than 100 full-time employees and $20 million or less in annual revenues.

Renmatix (#2), Verdezyne (#3), Elevance Renewable Sciences (#4), Liquid Light (#5), Fulcrum Bioenergy (#6), Rivertop Renewables (#7), Green Biologics US (#8), Cool Planet Energy (#9), and NexSteppe (#10), rounded out the top 10. No #8 was awarded this year, as the company in question (Green Biologics) exceeded the employee threshold recently and graduated to the Hot 50.

Ranked #11 through #20 are POET Biomass, Reverdia, Joule Unlimited, Michigan Biotechnology Institute, Ensyn, Sweetwater Energy, Ceres, Metabolix, Deinove and Calysta.

The rankings, which recognize innovation and achievement in fuels, biobased chemicals and materials by emerging companies, are based 50 percent on votes from an invited panel of distinguished international selectors, and 50 percent on votes from subscribers of The Digest

Overall, more than 100,000 individual company ratings were received from panelists and voters in the annual Hot 40 and Hot 50 rankings
