In Brazil, Camiones y Buses reports at LAT BUS 2024 in São Paulo, Volare, a division of Marcopolo, has unveiled its latest creation: the Attack 9 HVE ethanol hybrid minibus. Developed in collaboration with Horse and WEG, the vehicle marks a significant step forward in sustainable transport but will not hit the roads until 2026.
The Attack 9 HVE marries a Horse 1.0 three-cylinder ethanol engine with a WEG electric propulsion system. The ethanol engine, primarily acting as a generator, operates only a third of the time, maintaining an optimal rotation of about 3,000 rpm. This setup not only enhances efficiency but also reduces noise, vibrations, and overall wear, particularly in the braking system due to its regenerative capabilities.
Designed to carry 30 passengers, the minibus boasts three batteries totaling 100 kWh, promising an impressive range of up to 500 km on a single charge. This innovative combination positions the Attack 9 HVE as a promising contender in the move towards greener public transportation options, reflecting a growing trend among manufacturers to pivot towards more sustainable and energy-efficient technologies. Volare’s foray into hybrid technology underscores a broader industry shift that could redefine urban mobility in Brazil and beyond.
