In Sweden, RoRo operator WALLENIUS SOL introduced a new option that allows customers to purchase liquefied biogas to offset their transport’s fuel consumption, supporting a move toward more sustainable shipping. Customers can choose to replace between 10% and 100% of their fuel with biogas, reducing carbon emissions while complying with global climate goals.
“It might seem odd for us as a shipping company to encourage our customers to ‘lighten the load,’ but in this case, we’re talking about lightening our impact on the planet,” said Elvir Dzanic, CEO of WALLENIUS SOL. The biogas, produced from organic waste, cuts life cycle CO₂ emissions by up to 90% compared to liquefied natural gas.
WALLENIUS SOL already blends biogas into its own fuel and now offers this ISCC-certified product to help customers gradually transition away from fossil fuels. “For us, the entire supply chain is critical, as we recognise that reducing environmental impact is a collaborative effort,” says Rebecca Tagaeus, Sustainability Manager at WALLENIUS SOL. “Even a small step today is better than no step at all.”
