World’s First E-Methanol Fueled Service Vessel Launched by Esvagt

June 4, 2024 |

In Turkey, the world’s first e-methanol-fueled service operation vessel, Esvagt’s NB1094, was launched on Saturday at Cemre Shipyard. NB1094 will serve Ørsted’s offshore wind farm, Hornsea 2, off the UK’s Yorkshire coast in the North Sea.

The vessel, built according to DNV classification rules, will sail under the Danish flag and accommodate 124 people. These rules ensure the safety, reliability, and environmental performance of ships and offshore structures. NB1094 is designed to ensure crew comfort and safety, providing a highly efficient workspace and facilitate the safe transfer of technicians at the wind farm using a motion-compensated gangway, transfer boats, and a crane for heavy spare parts.

Powered by batteries and dual fuel engines capable of running on renewable e-methanol produced from wind energy and biogenic carbon, the 93-meter vessel is set to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 4,500 tonnes annually.
