X-Press feeders completes methanol-fueled boxship series

September 11, 2024 |

In Australia, Baird Maritime reports Singapore-based X-Press Feeders took delivery of “Eco Zephyr, the final vessel in a four-ship series powered by methanol. The ceremony took place at Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding’s facilities in China. The “Eco Zephyr” joins its sister ships, “Eco Maestro”, “Eco Levant”, and “Eco Ponente”, which were delivered earlier this year.

Each vessel in the series has a length of 148 metres, a beam of 27.2 metres, and a container capacity of 1,260 TEUs. Equipped with dual-fuel engines, these ships can operate on methanol, reducing their carbon footprint. Methanol is stored in two dedicated fuel tanks, and the ships can reach speeds of up to 14 knots.

X-Press Feeders plans to deploy the vessels primarily on European routes, creating the first green methanol-powered feeder network in the region. The Eco Zephyr is part of a broader commitment by the company, which has ordered 14 dual-fuel vessels in total. This marks a significant step toward more sustainable shipping, as the industry moves to reduce emissions and meet global environmental targets.
